GENTLEMEN OF FEW

6 friends with too many opinions, more than a decade of the craft and an absolutely mental demeanour on stage (all ,somehow, without sacrificing the clear professionalism that comes with spending over 5000 hours on stage), The Gents make and play their music with furious outrage, contemplative fits of expressionism and an other-worldly psychic understanding with one another.

Their writing is what keeps them grounded, they don’t know what it is, but it’s god-damned fun in most cases, and pretty evocative everywhere else. It’s hard to doubt there’s serious sincerity in their songs so you could say it’s music that walks the fine line between “Write for yourself” and “Give them what they want!”.

Their gateway drug into the musical world was folk music, which introduced them to the whole range of folk/country/bluegrass opioids such as Old Crow Medicine Show and The Lumineers. When that took it’s toll on them, Rock and Rollers like the Who and The Kinks were the rehab that left them all in a weird but rocking place, only to be slapped by the born-again revivals of 80s synth pop and modern classics like E.L.O. and MGMT. Their latest sound however, has placed them into a new, sober era of indie-rock like Vampire Weekend, The Vaccines and The Arctic Monkeys but with the ghosts of their past still haunting the sound in every track. Harmonies, intensity, energy, Electric, Synth, Acoustic, Rock and Pop; all words that only touch on the sound these ridiculous boys can make.

JACK BOWDEN

Jack Bowden is a singer-songwriter from South East Kent. He has a gift for word play and his (often humorous) songs give a cheeky and heartfelt insight into nightlife and modern romance. He’ll be sure to keep you smiling throughout his set.
